Small scale paintings of the landscape tend to feel as if they are very far away. That is true with this palm sized image where black tree silhouettes frame a moon ringed with the halo of light that I was taught as a child meant that the weather was due to change. This image makes me think of being outside on winter nights when it is cold enough to see my breath and the moon feels both distant and very present.
