This gold-toned painting builds from a dark fringe studded with cobalt violet deep toward a brilliant crescendo of bright white laced with 23 karat gold leaf.

Both cobalt violet deep and gold leaf are challenging to photograph. Cobalt pigments sometimes cause problems with the color calibration of consumer digital cameras. The gilding makes the painting dynamic in person, changing with the light. To make a photograph we must choose a lighting setup and compromise. On the other hand, it can be fun to photograph the painting in different locations and enjoy the variety in the results.
The gallery below includes photos showing the painting in the studio and installed in my 2016 solo exhibit at Blank Space Gallery.
This painting was originally exhibited with the title “Corona”. The title was adjusted in 2021.
