When I was a child, I won a blue ribbon for a drawing I had done in pastel of a bare tree on a cliff over the sea at sunset.

Some time has passed but that motif seems as relevant as ever today. So I recreated that drawing with the materials and technique I have available two-score and some years later.

This brightly colored orange, yellow, blue, and white painting is a symbolist take on that early theme. I’m thinking about current events, climate change, the general anxiety. And I know we can do better.

This painting is a postcard to the future. We tried. And despite everything, we tried to make it beautiful.

This painting was exhibited at Context Art Miami 2023.
