The Wine Dark Sea

oil on panel, 8 x 12.75 inches.
Public collection

“Wine Dark Sea” was painted during a 2004 residency at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts in Lynchburg, Virginia. The title is a poetic phrase borrowed from the ancient Greek Homeric tales, and is an allusion to the fluid and culturally dependent way we see and describe what we see, especially when it comes to color.

This painting is now part of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Art Bank Collection
